Tens of thousands of people from various corners of the marketing and creative world descend on the French Riviera every year in June for the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. Only this time Team Openr was with them. We were making our debut after being announced as the Cannes Lions Innovation Competition winner, which meant we got to join in the fun, and showcase Openr in the start-up village.
There were celebrity appearances and some late nights on a selection of sparkling yachts, but most importantly there was the crème de la crème of industry leaders to meet, so there was a lot of smiling and a lot of coffee meetings. A big thank-you shout-out to the MEC crowd for making sure we knew (being Cannes first timers) the places we should be; as well as all the innovative and bold characters that visited our Openr showcase on Tuesday.
The yearly arrival of Cannes Lions is hard to miss – and quite the spectacle if it’s your first time: The beaches and hotel frontages of La Croisette are transformed into the places to be during the week; Le Vieux Port becomes a Silicon Valley outpost with super-sized ad-tech yachts lining the French Riviera; and billboard and building wraps celebrate or promote the industry players with cash to burn.
