1. Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Chloe Thurlow. I am a full-time writer, author and blogger. I have published six novels, the last being Katie in Love in March this year.
2. Where are you are you from?
Everywhere and nowhere. Because of my father’s job, I was born in Belgium, moved to Italy, where I took my first steps at age 15 months, being a slow learner, and then to Canada, where I went to kindergarten. I grew up in Kent, near Canterbury, and now live in Barcelona.
3. What gets you up in the morning?
Restlessness, the first Spanish coffee of the day. I am a late night person, an insomniac, always on the edge of my seat.
4. What’s been keeping you busy lately?
Since the appearance of Katie in Love I have been working on a new novel that will be ready any day but I keep going back as if addicted to make edits and new edits. No book or work of art is ever finished, it is abandoned and I am not ready to part with it yet.
5. What’s your favourite aspect of what you do?
Sometimes, in the afternoon, I read my work in hard copy and get struck by an idea. I turn to the blank side and write by hand and those words that come out seem to be fed to me by the universe and they are always the best of what I can do. The editing and re-editing is to find that same quality that comes when I stop trying.
6. What do you do in your spare time?
Swim, dance, drink too much, fall over, inflict my bad Spanish on strangers and forget about the recent break up with my partner, the one that got away.
7. Who is your biggest inspiration?
Anais Nin, absolutely, also Milan Kundera, Albert Camus and Simone de Beauvoir.
8. What brand or ad campaign did you wish you’d worked on and why?
The launch of Fifty Shades of Grey, a trilogy with more success than content, proof of what can be done.
9. What have you been getting up to with Openr, and what’s worked best for you? (or how are you planning on using Openr, if you’re just starting out?)
Openr has some splendid blogs that I have enjoyed and has inspired me to contribute content that I believe Openr readers will enjoy. Blogs are short, dynamic, controversial essays designed to make you angry, happy and eager to communicate.
10.When it comes to marketing and social media what’s your one tip for the rest of the Openr tribe to get results?
Don’t give up. You only fail when you stop.
